Ryan grew up in Crete, Illinois and attended Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois. At the University of Illinois he was involved in the Illinois Business Consulting organization as both as a consultant and a project manager. Ryan was also Treasurer of the Economics Club and recipient of the 2011 Susan Silver and Ross Erlebacher Economics Scholarship. During college, he interned at an executive recruiting company in Hinsdale, Illinois named Crist-Kolder Associates. He is now a Financial Analyst at Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook, Illinois. He remains involved on the Alumni Board of the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter at the University of Illinois.
