Biosketch:
Dr. Aigner graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a PhD in Agricultural Economics in 1963, preceded by an MA in Applied Statistics in 1962, and a BS in Agricultural Economics in 1959. Dr. Aigner began his career as an assistant professor of Economics at the University of Illinois in 1962. He was an associate professor and professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin from 1967 to 1976, and a professor and later chairman of the Department of Economics at the University of Southern California from 1976 to 1988. Dr. Aigner was a professor of Management and Economics in the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Irvine from 1988 to 2007, and from 1988 to 1997 he served as dean of the school.
From 2000 to 2005 Dr. Aigner served as dean of the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and helped structure the educational curriculum of the school, influencing the focus of the Master's program to incorporate environmental management, science and law for a greener approach to business practices. From 2000 to 2002, Dr. Aigner participated in the construction of one of the greenest buildings in the United States at UCSB, which received the LEED Platinum Award in 2003. Since 2007, Dr. Aigner has held the title of professor emeritus of Management and Economics in the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine.
Despite his extended time in academic administration, he has authored or edited 13 books and over 70 articles. His econometrics research has included both highly theoretical as well as many applied topics. Among the many applied are a series of major papers on time of day pricing for utilities, and business and the environment. His honors include “Studies in Econometrics in Honor of Dennis J. Aigner”, Journal of Econometrics, 1993, and he was twice a Fullbright Fellow. The Dennis J. Aigner award is awarded in alternate years for the best article in the Journal of Econometrics.
